18 Feb 2024
Meeting held at VFW Post 6111.
Meeting opened at 1215 with the Pledge of Allegiance and moment of silence.
Officers present: Rick Boland, Troy, Doni, Nay Nay, AmyJo, Laurie (by phone) and Byrrd Gutierrez.
Minutes accepted as read.
Treasurer’s report: Accepted as read. All bills are current. The CashApp QR code has been updated to remove personal information. Details of update reported. Discussion regarding how using the app might affect new/renewal membership paperwork.
Membership: 62 current members. Can we list expired members on our web page? No.
Products: AmyJo had found a company in Houston that does koozies and embroidered patches. Prices and quantities listed. Sweatshirts are also available through this company. They promise a good turnaround time. They have good reviews on multiple web sites. Should we order some koozies with the chapter QR code on them? Maybe have a contest for a new design for the chapter T-shirts? Some koozies will be ordered to check out this company.
Chapter Rep: The last state meeting went well, lots of representation from our chapter. The next state meeting will be held 07 Apr in the HOT chapter area.
Legislative: U.S. House Motorcycle Caucus will have new leadership soon. No new news on recent federal legislation. There is a S.M.I.L.E. (State Motorcyclists Improving Legislative Effectiveness) seminar scheduled for 04 May in Round Rock. Final details still being worked out. The IMAC after-market parts and service trade group will be having an event in Florida to recruit new business members. Details are available on our web site.
Security: We’re secure.
Web site: Will try to get our membership form set up in Google Forms for our web site.
Bears: We are still working on trying to get corporate support for an industrial level vacuum sealer. Some other fire departments are interested in our bears program. However, some departments require 501 C(3) status to participate. Could the chapter share our program with AMSEP? Discussion concerning cost (no cost to us), and concerns that it might hurt/compete against our program. It was explained that this would be complimentary to our program. This could also allow us an organized expansion of our program to other chapters and the fire departments in their areas.
Old Business: Biker’s Ball/Fun Run date needs to be moved. 01 Jun? Arlington Life Shelter run will be after our meeting on 21 Jul. Flyers are being prepared. Bottled water is always a big need at that time of year. Rather than listing that on the flyer could we pass the helmet to buy some? Blue Bonnet Run is still waiting for guidance from the blue bonnets. The chili cook-off will be 16 & 17 of March at Joe Pool Lake.
New business: No new business
Open floor: A member reported that Pokey is not doing well health wise and needs assistance. They are trying to get his bike back up for a final ride. Is there anybody that can help load/transport his bike? Possible benefit for him at Stumpy’s on 10 Mar? Not as a chapter event. General discussion. Rick has some tri-folds and motorcycle awareness bumper stickers available.
Meeting closed at 1315.
